Everybody Needs a Rock

Today we revisited a read-aloud from last week, "Everybody Needs a Rock" by Byrd Baylor.  This is one of my favorites, with gorgeous illustrations by Peter Parnall.  The book lays out  ten "rules"  for finding the perfect rock, which served as great inspiration for our upcoming field trip to the gravel pit.

Next, the students read together about the three major types of rocks: Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary.  They learned some clues to help them identify each type of rock.
