Weekly Highlights: Nov. 13 - 21st

We have been very fortunate over the past week  to have two special guests visit our classroom!  In honor of Native American Heritage month, Naanibaa's mom, Yaanibaa, came to teach our class all about the Navajo tribe. We learned about the food, landscape, music and more from this beautiful culture. Yaanibaa even baked some delicious Navajo fry bread for the children to sample - it was a big hit.

This week, Ian's grandfather, Ron Williams, came in to teach our class about his company, MedBio, which is a medical manufacturing company in Grand Rapids. We learned a lot about the various parts of manufacturing, including raw materials, people, tools and the facility itself. We also learned a lot about plastic and how it is used in the manufacturing of medical supplies.

In Writing we have been working on persuasive writing. We have been writing book reviews, as well as restaurant and movie reviews.  This week we had fun writing about our Turkeys in Disguise from the perspective of the turkey.

The organization our class has decided to assist is Ronald McDonald House. We discovered that they accept pop can tops that they can exchange at the Recycling Center for donations. We thought this would be an easy and fun way for all Angell students to participate and we will be putting out a memo soon after the holidays. Additionally, we learned about an organization called Alpha House, which Mr. Court volunteers for. Last week, he gave a presentation to all the second graders on the organization, and we are considering ideas for holding a fund raiser for this organization since it is a lesser known one in our community. Details coming soon.

Last Friday we were visited by the Michigan Marching Band in Music class! This was a great experience.
