Weekly Highlights: Oct. 30th - Nov. 3rd

What an exciting week!  Between the Halloween festivities and our field trip to Argus, the excitement was palpable. Big thanks to our fabulous room parents (Melissa Dorfman, Grace Carpenter and Lynly Williams) for putting together such a fabulous party. Thanks also to the many parents who sent in items for the party and those who came to join in the fun.

In Math this week we learned a new game called "Name That Number".  This is another fun one to play at home!  We have also been working hard on story problems and translating those stories into number models.

In Science we returned to our unit on Life Cycles by learning about why we have so many bones, and examined the bones in our own hands by moving our fingers and sketching each part. The children then dipped q-tips in oil and filled in all the bones with oil.  I missed getting a picture of the finished project but took a screenshot off the website we used for the activity (Mystery Science) to give you a sense of the end product, which has an x-ray effect when put in a sunny window.

Our trip to Argus was fun and educational. We learned that every item for sale there is grown right here in Michigan, and that Michigan is the second most diverse state in terms of the crops it is able to grow, second only to California. We were lucky to sample Michigan kohlrabi, cider and gala apples! Thanks to Clemente's mom, Valeria, and Arianna's mom, Demaris, for joining us on this trip.
