News from Music Class!

It's great to be a guest blogger on Mrs. Halabu's site! We've spent the winter months exploring the warm, sunny sounds of the Caribbean in the music room. We've used some great songs from the Caribbean to explore Call and Response, patterns using the notes Do / Mi / Sol / La,  as well as creating harmony through rounds and adding  Do (tonic) and Sol (dominant) patterns to songs. We've been playing xylophones, bass bars and most recently the autoharp. (It's like a mix of a guitar and a harp: you can play chords by pressing a button and strumming the strings.) Ask your child about "Shake the Papaya Down" or "The Banyan Tree." If you'd like to get in on the action, have your child teach you "Donkeys and Carrots" and try singing a round together!

We also listened to the great artist, Harry Belafonte on different occasions. We learned the response to "Day-O" and enjoyed this great clip from The Muppet Show. Many of the students wanted to share this short video with you at home: enjoy it!

Thanks for your support of the Angell Music program!
